Client challenge
A cold-chain logistics operator needed 14,000 m² of cold-store envelope insulated to a tight thermal specification, on a construction programme where the build sequence kept shifting. Over-ordering panels risked waste and site congestion; under-supplying risked stopping the envelope.
Project context
A single-source insulation supply was required, with documentation suitable for the operator's quality regime and delivery that could flex with the programme.
Solution provided
R&A supplied a rigid PU sandwich-panel system and a cold-store block system, formulated in-region for the required thermal class, and sequenced deliveries just-in-time against the live build schedule.
PRODUCTS USED — Rigid PU sandwich panel grade · Cold-store block system
Technical approach
The system was selected to meet the envelope U-value target with a manageable panel thickness. Batch documentation accompanied each delivery, and an application engineer supported the installer at the start of works.
Results
- 14,000 m²
- Cold-store envelope supplied
- JIT
- Deliveries sequenced to programme
- 0
- Spec deviations (representative)
Sustainability contribution
Repackaging and JIT delivery reduced over-ordering and site waste; the insulation performance lowers the facility's ongoing refrigeration energy. Sustainability approach →
